Doodh Talai Lake is a small pond that is sharing a common road with the majestic Lake Pichola. Though Doodh Talai Lake is smaller in size, it holds great importance due to its history and purpose it used to server.

Very few individuals know the origin of its name, but if you are visiting Udaipur, adding up this to your knowledge would be beneficial. The pond used to be the water source for cows which were kept in government cow shelters (Raajakeey Goshalas). These cows were used to supply milk to the royal house of Udaipur. In Hindi Milk is known as Doodh and from here Doodh Talai Lake Got its name.

Doodh Talai Lake is situated amidst different attractions. On its one side, you will find the crown lake of Udaipur- Pichola, and on the other, a beautiful hillock on whose top devotees of Karni Mata pays their visits. 

Adjacent to the pond, there you will find a few stalls including the ones which are famous for serving delicious Bajeeyas, a popular example of Indian culinary art.

The place doesn’t require along stay but as it’s picturesque, the time will move as the clicks follow. A lot of local individuals hang out here for leisure as the place delivers tranquillity even when it is crowded.

  • Before you reach Doodh Talai Lake, make sure that your evening food craving is at its peak as the location serves one of the best street foods in Udaipur. Though there is a lack of variety, still you are trying Pakodas and Samosas served with Green Chatni. Sweet corn coated with a mixture of spices is also an excellent choice according to the environment.
  • A walk adjacent to the road to Doodh Talai Lake can turn your evening memorable- where the group of harmonious chirping birds can be seen painting the sky with their movements. 
  • Reaching to another side of the road, you can even ditch Doodh Talai Lake for a while and enter into Pichola’s premises with an extraordinary boating experience.
  • After you stay long enough to please your eyes with its beauty, you can view the top view by taking a ropeway to Karni Mata Temple. Next to Doodh Talai Lake, there is Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Park (Rock Garden or Musical Fountain Garden) from where you need to take the ropeway.

How to Reach Doodh Talai

  • The tourist spot is located in one of the oldest parts of the city, and thus, transportation facility is readily available.
  • If you are a fan of travelling on-foot, then you can choose to have a walk from Gulab Bagh to Doodh Talia which is one kilometre uphill.
  • It is even close to the old Udaipur where tourist spots such as City Palace, Jagdish Temple, etc. are located. From there you can choose to have a 2.5 km walk or else get a Tanga or Rickshaw to get here in no time.

When Doodh Talai Lake Owns the Best View?

  • Though the place is beautiful, during summer, the heat becomes irresistible, making it impossible to visit during the day-time. However, the mornings and evenings most of the time have pleasant temperatures.
  • During rainy days, you can capture the view of continuous patterns forming as the water droplets strike on the surface of Doodh Talai Lake and Pichola Lake. For this vision, you need to visit Udaipur in August.
  • The best of all is the winter; amidst the cold breezy air, you get the touch of perfect sunlight at any time of the day. The mist that covers the surface of the pond makes it look mysterious during winter mornings.

Doodh Talai Lake – Surrounded by Numerous Tourist Spots

Doodh Talai Lake may itself not require a long visit, but as it has multiple tourist spots nearby, it is suggested to visit it with a plan.

  • Manikya Lal Verma Garden
    Manikya Lal Verma Garden is one of the oldest Picnic spots in the city. The garden is covered with lust green trees and multiple play areas. There are paths build along the garden area best suited for jogging.

  • Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Park
    This park houses Rajasthan’s first musical fountain acting as a pleasing source of entertainment during the evenings. The garden also has a ropeway to reach Karni Mata Temple. It provides a mesmerizing view of Lake Pichola, Doodh Talia, and other old parts of the city.

  • Karni Mata Temple
    One way to reach here is by taking a ropeway from Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Park, or else you can choose to trek uphill from Manikya Lal Verma Garden. The trek is almost half an hour long having nearly 300 stairs. The temple is of historical importance as it was built in the 17th century, making it a must-visit spot.

  • Lake Pichola
    Lake Pichola and Doodh Talai Lake are divided by a wall which is used as a leisure area we discussed above. From here, you can view absorb the majestic beauty of Pichola and even go for the boating.
