This building stands tall amidst the senile yet magnificent streets of the old city Udaipur, it was constructed in the 18th century, moulded with more than 100 rooms, courtyards, cenotaphs, balconies. After being neglected for years after the independence, the property came under the West Zone Cultural Centre, and they made sure it was restored and utilized.

History of Bagore ki Haveli

  • The Haveli was constructed over time in the reigns of 3 Mewar rulers including Maharana Pratap II, Hamir Singh, and Raj Singh II.
  • It was an estate of the Prime Minister of Mewar kingdom Shri Amar Hand Badwa from 1751 to 1788, after his death it was transferred to Nath Singh, a royal relative of the ruler.
  • The possession of the Haveli kept revolving in royal hands, in 1878 Maharana Shakti Singh marked his creative prints on the structure by building three aches gate.
  • Post Independence of the nation, Bagore ki Haveli landed in the hands of the Rajasthan Government, which was then utilized for housing purposes of Government officials.
  • In 1986 the government realized that this archaeological property was losing its quintessence, to restore the enticement of the Haveli, West Zone Cultural Centre (WZCC)was assigned the rights to this monument.
  • WZCC renovated the place and restored ancient elements present there, and showcased them into a well-displayed museum.

  • Stroll around in the Epic Architectural Premises:
    There are over 100 rooms, courtyards, balconies, archways, cenotaphs, fountain, carved pillars that disseminate Rajputi Architecture. You can walk into the queen’s chamber to experience the grandeur of the royal highness.
  • Scrutinize Murals and other Exhibits in the Museum:
    The WZCC preserved several murals, armoury, paintings, and other antiques (pan boxes, hukkas, water sprinkles, glass peacock, dice games, etc.) that are now categorized and displayed in the Bagore ki     Haveli Museum.
  • Attend the Evening Cultural Show: Dharohar Dance
    In the evening a 1-hour show is organized on the premises in which artists from Rajasthan showcase their talents including dance, puppet show, magic, stunts.

Tip: Reach the Haveli at 4:30 PM or 5:00 PM and explore the museum, after the museum closes, take a walk to Gangaur Ghat, or grab some snacks in nearby lakeside cafes, the tickets for evening show starts selling at 6:15 PM, walk back to the Haveli for the show in time.

How to Reach Bagore Ki Haveli?

  • By Cabs: As the streets of the old city are narrow, cab drivers are not allowed to drive taxis till the Haveli, they’ll drop you till the taxi station. Walk for 5 minutes to reach the Haveli.
  • By Bikes: Nowadays, you can book a bike ride from online, they’ll charge less and will drop you directly to the location. Also renting bikes is the best option to travel in the streets of the old city.

  • City Palace, Udaipur
    The administrative palace of the Mewar kingdom constructed over 400 years ago. This is also the palace where the royal family used to reside, it now belongs to the present Mewar Custodian and is open for public. City palace remains open from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
  • Jagdish Temple
    A 79 feet tall religious shrine that can be spotted from any street of the old city. This three-story building was built over several years and was completed in 1651. It is usually crowded with devotees on festivals, therefore check dates before visiting.
  • Gangaur Ghat
    Watch the sun immersing in the Aravalli range of mountains along with the serene Lake Pichola from Gangaur Ghat, and you can always find musicians jamming near the lake, enjoy the melodious tunes while dipping your feet in the chilled lake.
