Strolling near the Fateh Sagar Lake, you can easily spot a majestic fort residing up a hill in the lush Aravalli Valley. At night you will get an illusion of a golden palace floating renowned as Sajjangarh Fort, also renowned as the Monsoon Palace it is equipped with bright yellow lights making it easy to spot from distant places. 

This fort was built by Maharana Sajjan Singh in 1884; he had his motives for building this gigantic fort 3100 Ft. above to sea level, which included to catch a glimpse of his ancestral home Chittor and to look closely & cherish the monsoon clouds. 

Sajjangarh Fort is now under the Forest Department and is accessible to tourists from morning to evening.

Memoir of Sajjangarh Fort

  • Sajjangarh Fort was named after Maharana Sajjan Singh who constructed it in 1884, he planned on building a five-story building structure which was halted by his untimely demise. 
  • Later, his successor Maharana Fateh Singh completed the construction. 
  • The irony is that the fort is named after Maharana Sajjan Singh who also built it, but couldn’t relish his time in the fort. 
  • The fort for several years belonged to the royal family who used it as a family retreat to overlook the city and enjoy monsoon clouds, later came under the Forest Department and was open for public.

  • Bird’s Eye View of the City: Once you reach the Sajjangarh fort, you will be astounded to see the city lakes and structures in an aerial view. You can carry binoculars and spot the renowned tourist spots from above. If you visit the place in monsoons, you might get lucky and watch the monsoon clouds from close. 
  • Dine above all: An open restaurant is also available at 3100 sq. Ft. of height that serves mouth-watering dishes, grab a snack or meal in the veranda of the Palace. 
  • Quirky Photo Sessions: The campus of Sajjangarh fort is beguiling, one can pose with various elements including high-speed wind gushing hair, posing in the open compound with the Aravalli background, majestic aura photoshoot with the wall carvings as a backdrop. The Monsoon Palace is one of the best pre-wedding photoshoot locations of Udaipur. 
  • Feel Royal: The Monsoon Palace is huge and has been built with alluring architecture. One can stroll around and imagine being a prince or princess and adoring this masterpiece. 
  • The Enticing Sunset: Sajjangarh fort is considered to provide the most enticing sunset view of the Rajasthan’s golden sun. Reach location in the evening just before the sunset and watch the light slowly immersing into the Aravalli Range.

  • 8 am to 6 pm

Note: There are extra charges to be paid for cars or rickshaws that will take you up the hill. 

How to Reach Sajjangarh Fort?

The fort is situated in the outskirts of the city, and one has to hire a cab or rent a car or bike to reach the location. Don’t forget to use a city map or Google maps if you’ve rented self-driven vehicles. 

The best option is to hire a cab or taxi as the road to the Palace is steep and can be risky; therefore, an experienced driver shall be an ideal choice.

  • Sajjangarh Biological Park: Just near the entry gate leading towards the way to the Sajjangarh fort, you can easily spot the Sajjangarh Biological Park. This park is spread across a land of 36 hectares with several animals and birds in kept in their respective habitats including White Tiger, Bear, Chinkara, Jungle Cat, Sambhar. Tiger, Lion and many more. 
  • Badi LakeA vast lake situated at 12kms from the Udaipur City, covering 155 sq. km of area. This lake is the most serene of all the lakes of Udaipur, sit near the lake and enjoy the natural environment with the sound of birds chirping and water splashing on shores. 
  • Bahuballi Hill: A small trekking hill discovered by the youth of the city, which has now attracted several tourists. You just have to walk up the path for around 10 minutes to the heaven spot of the city. Several people prefer watching the Sunrises and Sunsets from this location.
