One such Ghats is Ambrai, Located in the heart of Udaipur, exactly opposite to Gangaur Ghat where famous Gangaur festival is celebrated. Ambrai Ghat is the only Ghat in Udaipur which is surrounded by water from three sides from where you can capture the scenic exquisiteness of Pichola Lake at its best.

Discovering Ambrai From the Paths of the Old City

Ambrai Ghat also known as Manjhi Ghat, is precisely located on the Lake Pichola. However, it is on the other side of many popular destinations such as Dudh Talai, Karni Mata, Gangaur Ghat, and City Palace. If you are visiting all these tourist spots, it won’t take long for you to visit Ambrai Ghat.

If you find peace in exploring destinations, you can better choose to have a walk from one side of the city to another. It will nearly take twenty to twenty-five minutes to reach Ambrai Ghat from the opposite end. 

It gives a chance to go through the historical bridge built over Pichola. Moreover, the path that leads to Ambrai has houses older than a hundred years, making the way itself a destination.

From the Morning, Till the Night Ends – Things to Do

Visiting Ambrai Ghat just once won’t be enough. With every hour, the view differs due to the intensity of sunlight that falls. During morning hours, before 6:30 AM, when the sun appears above the palace walls, the Lake Pichola is decorated with a layer of golden colour formed as the sunlight gets reflected on the waves.

During this time, you can find people bathing and diving on the Ghat, which is a part of their regular lifestyle. There is a temple as well where Hindu’s famous god, Hanumana is worshipped. From evening 5:30 AM to 6:30 PM, prayer or aarti is conducted six times. This will be a perfect opportunity if you wish to uncover the spiritual part of India.

During the afternoon hours, it could be a bit hot, especially in the summer season which generally starts from April and lasts till July first week. Thus, it is always recommended to visit it during the morning or evening hours.

Moving towards the evening, you will find that Ambrai has changed. The sky uplifts its charm by shades of red and orange, which touches the surface of Pichola which still appears blue.

As the sun sets, city lights are turned on which are visible like stars have fallen in the lake. The Pichola becomes the mirror of the heritage buildings, and Ambrai becomes the most serene place to watch it.

In the evening, you will find it comparatively more crowded till 11 PM. However, due to its recent development, a huge garden area has been build surrounded by footpath and bordered by carved boundaries.

Ambrai covers the 240-degree view of the city which includes the City Palace, Jag Mandir, Lake Palace, and Leela Palace.

Best Season to Visit Ambrai Ghat

Udaipur is always ready to make the tourists go crazy and calm at the same time by the beauty it holds. But, as Udaipur is considered the city of lakes, you would like it more when the water level would be at its top.

Pichola is an integral part of Ambrai’s charm. Thus, if you want to absorb the most out of it, visit it after the rainy season ends, i.e., during September.

At the time of the New Year and Diwali Festival, the sky is painted with the Lantern Lights which adds the glow to Ambrai.

What Else You Can Visit Nearby

As Ambrai Ghat is located in the old city, with every step, you will find a new building to explore. Most of these buildings are now converted into heritage hotels and restaurants.

One of the prominent places where you can calm yourself along with great food is the Ambrai restaurant adjacent to Ghat. With a little walk, you will find numerous handicraft shops and rooftop restaurants nearby to Pichola.

Remember, if you are visiting Udaipur once in a lifetime, never let yourself skip this place. Visit it during the morning as well as night time because both the views are incomparable and hold the beauty of their own.
