History Of Sheesh Mahal

The Glass Palace is a part of Jai Mandir in Amber Fort. Jai Mandir was built by Raja Man Singh in the 16th Century and was completed by 1727, which is also marked as Jaipur’s year of birth.

The Sheesh Mahal has a beautiful tale behind its construction. It is believed that the queen of Jaipur had a desire to sleep under the open sky and being a queen, it was against the safety and security rule. To show its love and fondness, Maharaja then built this glass house wherein even a single flash of light twinkled a thousand stars in that room. This luxurious hall was gifted to the queen to satiate her desire.

The entry to Sheesh Mahal is now restricted after the mishandling and destruction of the glass décor by some visitors. The Mahal is now under strict surveillance to protect and keep the rich history intact.
